THE CAMERACLASS MANUAL

The CameraClass Manual is the indispensable companion to a CameraClass workshop. Full of practical information, photographs and professional tips, this ring bound, camera bag sized manual is both a summary of course content and a reference for sound and camera operators.

Written in a clear collegial style, the 103 page manual is divided into 5 easy to navigate sections that include; camera, lighting, sound/audio, in the field and additional info.

The introduction covers; crewing options, a setting up checklist, Tony and Leo's 8 golden rules and a no-nonsense A-Z of shooting that has saved more than one shoot.

The CameraClass Manual is included in workshop registration and is unavailable as a stand-alone purchase.

THE DIGITAL GENERATION

The development of small HDV, XDCAM EX, P2 and the more recent AVCHD camcorders has had an enormous impact on the way many television documentaries and short films are made.

The Camera Class teaches how to make the most of these cameras and formats, giving participants a chance 'pick the brains' of industry professionals.

Whilst there will be some emphasis on the basics, the course will have a focus on the development of skills, analysis of results and the problem solving involved in recording with these formats. In many cases, these new formats have also transformed the traditional documentary crew of Director, Camera and Sound into a one-person 'crew', often a solo director or journalist.

The Camera Class examines the arguments, artistic and financial to support this development, as well as showing students how to avoid the most common technical pitfalls.

THE SOUND OF SUCCESS

Although called the Camera Class, there can be no successful professional video camera course without significant attention to sound. Sound is a critical element to any story and can significantly alter its overall outcome and impact.

Badly recorded location sound can result in endless hours of wasted post production time attempting to 'fix it up', or as often happens in a worst case scenario, rendering the shot or sequence unusable.

At the Camera Class, basic skills in selecting microphones (including radio microphones), connecting them correctly to the camera and setting levels is just the beginning. It's possible to sound good, even in very demanding situations. Make sure you know how.
