WHAT INDUSTRY PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT THE CAMERA CLASS - two

thecameraclass workshop at the Writers Centre
thecameraclass workshops, the Writers Centre, November 2008

SKILLED, APPROACHABLE AND JARGON FREE ...

'The CameraClass is a fantastic course, and Tony and Leo are excellent teachers - skilled, approachable and jargon free. I am a television producer and have some experience shooting. However, prior to this course, I only felt confident shooting overlay - and even then only outside or on auto everything.

Now I feel I have the skill, and confidence, to bring back quality pictures and sound.. Of course, it would take many years to develop skills anywhere near as good as those of the camera operators and sound recordists I regularly work with, but now I appreciate their skills even more, and hopefully the knowledge gained at The CameraClass will also help me to be a better 'director' in the field. The course was great fun too!

Belinda Gibbon: TV Producer (December 08)

I DIDN'T FEEL INTIMIDATED...

'As someone who has never picked up a camera before, the course outlined the most basic but important aspects of camera, sound and lighting. I didn't feel intimidated by the information at all. I genuinely enjoyed all aspects of the two days and only wished that we had more time to absorb the information.

I very grateful to have done this course and now feel as though I can properly understand my role as camera assistant. I think this course outlines the most crucial aspects of camera operation that is not offered by the big institutions like AFTRS and so forth. I hope to hear news of more courses to come.'

Tida Tippapart:Film Student (December 2008)

YOU KNOW NOTHING...

'It's like handling a baby for the first time, you know nothing! But gradually, gently Tony and Leo guide you through the ins and outs of the camera so by the end, you can pick it up with confidence and are ready to play.

Emily Berry: Filmmaker (December 08)

THE STAND OUT ASPECT FOR ME ...

'I can't recommend this course highly enough - if the web is the future of journalism, then the camera becomes our sword. These guys really know how to make it a friend - a fabulous course... '

Paul McGeough: Chief Correspondent Sydney Morning Herald (November 2008)

I CAN HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ANYONE...

'A great course that I can highly recommend to anyone, I only wish a course such as this existed in New Zealand.'

Brett Corlett: Editor NZ (November 2008)

MOST IMPORTANTLY WHAT NOT TO DO...

'I came expecting to setup and learn to operate my camera; instead I got that in spades plus years of experience in what to do and most importantly, what not to do. Thanks. When I get my Sony Z7 I'll be coming back.'

Marcel Chaloupka: Edmedia Australia (November 2008)

GETTING THE CAMERA OFF AUTO...

'I found the camera class program to be very useful in getting my camera off auto and starting to use the creative features. Tony and Leo have a wealth of industry knowledge and they were able to convey that in a very easy to understand manner. I'd highly recommend this course to anyone wanting to improve their skills and technique as a film maker.'

John Harley: Hobby (November 2008)

I WANTED TO LEARN HOW TO MAKE DOCUMENTARIES...

I came to the course with no former background, either in Media, Journalism or any other 'Industry' capacity.

I want to learn how to make Documentaries. This is my dream and I needed a good foundation in the basics of using HDV cameras and to learn about sound and lighting. This is a most excellent place to start. The location is picturesque, (particularly with the Jacaranda's in flower) and the course is structured so that you get a good balance between the theory and the practical hands-on exercises that you are given.

Finally, whatever your level of experience or even a total lack of it, you cannot go wrong being taught and encouraged by two people who have between them, a huge wealth of experience in Television and in Film making.

The Camera Course was challenging, mind stretching and fun.'

Stuart Borlase: Bus Operator, Perth (November 2008)

LEFT ME FEELING TOTALLY REASSURED...

I found the course to be extremely useful in learning camera technology and operational techniques which I will now be able to use on forthcoming projects. I would happily recommend this course to anyone wanting to learn more about broadcast video and audio techniques.'

Mark Edwards: Recording Engineer, Greenside Productions, www.greensideproductions.com.au (November 2008)
